Martha will share insights on current trends, optimizing occupancy costs, and best practices to enhance productivity and employee well-being. Additionally, successful case studies and effective strategies for attracting and retaining tenants in a transforming market will be explored. Accessibility and universal design are integral to every construction professional’s project intentions. However, the clarity of accessibility often fades from discourse to paper and frequently diminishes by the final execution. This presentation explains the fundamentals and details necessary to achieve universal design in projects, providing comfort and safety for all, including individuals with disabilities.

This presentation will cover the evolution of the workplace and how organizations can enhance the human experience through design strategies and engagement. Topics include social cohesion, employee engagement, enabling hybrid work, and well-being, highlighting the importance of psychological safety, adaptability, and choice in creating workspaces that support productivity and employee well-being. It will also emphasize the need for human-centered design and adaptability for the future, with a focus on continuous improvement and activity-based planning.

Nearshoring is having a significant impact on Mexico, creating new opportunities in the office industry as many companies choose to establish operations in Mexico due to its geographical proximity, skilled workforce, and competitive costs. This is generating employment and contributing to the country’s economic growth. Nearshoring is undoubtedly changing the business landscape in Mexico and offering new possibilities for the development of the office industry.

Martha Millán
Towards the Recovery of the Office Market

Martha is a professional with over 19 years of experience in the real estate sector. She recently joined Gensler Mexico as the Director of the Work Studio. Previously, she was a Senior Managing Director at Newmark for 6 years and spent 13 years at CBRE, where she reached the position of Vice President. Martha has conducted significant transactions for Fortune 500 companies in Mexico and Latin America, providing valuable architectural and financial consulting. Her expertise includes reducing occupancy costs by up to 30% and increasing business productivity, establishing herself as a specialist in Workplace Strategy.

Throughout her career, she has managed over 500,000 square meters in transactions, overseeing key negotiations for companies such as AXA, Nissan, Estafeta, American Express, WPP, among others. She has led high-performance teams and managed real estate portfolios for renowned companies across Latin America. Martha complements her experience with a strong academic background, including an MCR.w from CoreNet Global, an MBA from ITAM, a Master’s in History, Art, Architecture, and the City from UPC in Barcelona, and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Universidad Anáhuac. She also holds certifications such as SLCR, LEED AP, and CCIM.

Taide Buenfil
Interiors: A Reflection of Thought
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15th 11:45 AM – 12:10 PM. Grand Auditorium

Graduated as an architect from Universidad Anáhuac with a Master’s degree in Social Responsibility, she began her career in 1996 as an advisor in Accessibility and Universal Design. She notably contributed to the consulting for the National Housing Award 2003 and collaborated on the Technical Accessibility Standard for Mexico City, published in 2000 and its subsequent updates.

As a public official, she has promoted accessibility policies with three key achievements: the National Program for Accessibility to Federal Buildings and the agreement with the guidelines (published in DOF on 01/12/04), as well as coordinating efforts for the issuance of the Mexican Standard for Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities to Public Service Spaces (published in DOF on 01/09/07).

Additionally, she has been involved in consulting for transportation and public-use real estate projects since 2002 and has taught for over 25 years in the postgraduate division of the Faculty of Architecture at UNAM, specializing in “Accessibility and Universal Design.” She has also been invited as a speaker and juror at national and international levels on the topic of architecture and disability by various governments and organizations such as the United Nations.

She is known for her work across the public, private, social, and academic sectors, believing that the value and drive for an accessible architectural and urban environment result from alliances and commitments between different sectors.

Jan Johnson

She is a pioneer in workplace strategy and design, with an impressive career spanning over three decades. Holding degrees from Purdue and Indiana University, she has worked at leading firms such as Perkins + Will, HOK, and Allsteel, where she developed innovative remote work strategies and led research on workplace productivity.

A recognized speaker and author, Jan has significantly influenced the profession by teaching in CoreNet Global’s MCR program and updating key skills in response to the pandemic. Her leadership and vision have established her as a respected and award-winning figure in the world of interior design.
