CMF OBRA BLANCA
FORECAST
TRENDS IN COLORS, MATERIALS, AND FINISHES FOR ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR DESIGN

A biennial interdisciplinary project that explores and defines national guidelines in color, materials, and finishes for the sector. A study aimed at architects, interior designers, and companies in the industry.

What is CMF?

CMF Design — an acronym for Color, Material, and Finish — focuses on proposing, designing, and specifying colors, materials, and finishes to emphasize the functional and emotional attributes of products and spaces. CMF considers both the technical and functional properties of materials as well as the human perception and emotional connection they evoke, with the goal of designing innovative, visually compelling environments that tell a strong story and respond to current and future consumer trends.

While the CMF methodology has been present in the automotive industry for years, it is relatively new to the fields of architecture, interior design, and other creative industries.

For Obra Blanca, innovation is crucial, and with this commitment, it leads research in color, material, and finish trends for the sector:

  • In 2023, the first CMF Obra Blanca 2025 Forecast was created in partnership with Code Studio and over 20 architecture firms, giving rise to the trends of Origen, Fuego lento, and Retrofuturo.
  • In 2024, these trends were further explored with 20 new architecture firms in the CMF Obra Blanca 2025 Dynamic.
  • In 2025, in partnership with The Color Authority™ (TCA), we dive in again with 3 groups of architects from different regions of the country (Mérida, Monterrey, and Mexico City) to work on the guidelines and trends for the development of projects in the CMF Obra Blanca 2027 Forecast.
CMF 2027 Forecast

The CMF Obra Blanca 2027 Forecast, in partnership with The Color Authority™ (TCA), will define the national trends that will serve as a reference to strengthen the industry and contribute to the development of higher-quality projects.

CMF 2025 Forecast

The CMF Obra Blanca 2025 Forecast, in partnership with Code Studio, defined, along with 20 architecture and interior design firms from across the country, the guidelines that would shape projects and developments for the coming years.

This collaboration gave rise to the trends Origen, Fuego Lento, and Retrofuturo, trends that were revisited the following year with 20 new architecture and interior design firms in the CMF 2025 Dynamic, continuing the mission to foster perpetual creativity in the selection of finishes, materials, and colors within the sector.
