Within the framework of Obra Blanca, the Lighting Forum is presented as a specialized space for architects, interior designers, and design professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of light as a creative and technical tool. Through a program of lectures featuring national and international experts, the forum will cover the latest trends, technologies, and applications in architectural lighting, promoting dialogue between industry, design, and contemporary architecture.

10:45 – 11:45 h. “Light, architecture and city”. Oriana Romero and Felipe Leal. Conference.

Oriana Romero and Felipe Leal will discuss the role of public space in urban life—its quality and accessibility—and how lighting influences its use and the way we inhabit the city, in a context where outdoor interactions seem to be diminishing.

Maurici Ginés is a renowned lighting designer and founder of Artec Studio (1998), with offices in Barcelona, Madrid, Mexico City, and New York. His work encompasses more than one thousand projects that combine architectural lighting, product design, light art, and natural light. He was the first president of the Professional Association of Lighting Designers (APDI) in Spain and is a member of IALD and PLDA. He has contributed to the academic development of the postgraduate program in architectural lighting at UPC Barcelona and participates as a lecturer in international programs such as Arquine in Mexico.

Founder of Fisher Marantz Stone

Charles joined Jules Fisher & Paul Marantz, Inc. in 1983 and co-founded FMS in 1997. With offices in New York, Seattle, and Austin, FMS has received more than 300 awards and successfully completed over 5,000 projects on six continents.

Mr. Stone’s international lecture tour, “Traveling Light,” has visited 25 countries. Since 2015, he has been a member of the IESNA Outdoor Nighttime Environment Committee. He is a graduate of Princeton University, a Fellow and past president of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), and has received distinctions such as the Lifetime Achievement Awards from Edison Report and ILAS.

Oriana Romero
“Light, architecture, and city”

An architect from UNAM with a master’s degree in urban studies from University College London, Oriana Romero has more than 15 years of experience in lighting design. Throughout her career, she has designed and managed large-scale projects in Mexico and abroad, in different architectural typologies.

From her studio Cienlux, she specializes in residential, urban, and hospitality lighting. She teaches in the Architectural Lighting Specialization program at UNAM and is part of the research group that develops the content of the light pollution and intrusive light standard. She also participates in the multidisciplinary project “Luces sobre la Ciudad” (Lights over the City).

She is co-founder of Luz Sin Fronteras, a civil association that, through community participation, promotes lighting projects in communities that lack this essential service for human development.

Felipe Leal
“Light, architecture, and city”

An architect from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Felipe Leal is an emeritus member of the National Academy of Architecture and president of the Mexican Culture Seminar. He was director of the UNAM School of Architecture (1997–2005) and founder of the Mexico City Government’s Public Space Authority in 2008.

His work, focused on the cultural and educational fields, has been recognized with 16 awards at biennials and national and international competitions. Among his most notable projects are the Madero Pedestrian Corridor, the restoration of the Monument to the Revolution, and the recovery of the Alameda Central. He has also developed architectural studies for painters and writers.

Author of Plaza de la República, Renovarse o morir (2011) and La Arquitectura (2019), Leal was inducted into El Colegio Nacional on April 26, 2021, becoming the third architect to join this institution, after José Villagrán and Teodoro González de León.

Maurici Ginés
Keynote Lecture

Maurici Ginés is the founder and creative director of Artec Studio. Since 1994, when he completed his first project for the Science Museum of Barcelona (CosmoCaixa), he has devoted his career to exploring light as a creative and social language, developing architectural, product design, and light art projects across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and Asia.

A pioneer in his field, he was the founder and first president of the Professional Association of Lighting Designers (APDI) in Spain (2008–2014) and has been a member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) since 2009. His commitment to education has led him to promote the postgraduate program in Architectural Lighting at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and to collaborate as a lecturer in international programs such as the postgraduate course at the university’s Mexico City branch (UPC–Arquine).

His work has been recognized with some of the most prestigious international design awards, including the IALD Award of Excellence, ADI-FAD Golden Delta, German Design Award, and Red Dot: Best of the Best 2024 for Libera by iGuzzini, consolidating his position as one of the most influential voices in the field of lighting. Additional honors include the Grand Laus, the Delta Awards 2024, and Italy’s National Award for Technological Innovation (2025). At the Ibero-American Lighting Design Biennial organized by Iluminet, he has been recognized in three consecutive editions—from the Birkat Yitzchak Temple (2018) to Casa Valle San Nicolás (2024)—further establishing Artec Studio as an international benchmark for innovation and creativity.

Passionate about light, Maurici Ginés conceives his projects as a synthesis of essence, functionality, and poetry—creating experiences that convey beauty, balance, and emotion.
