Claudia Paz
Light as a material in arquitecture

With a degree in Architecture, Claudia decided to focus her career on lighting design. In 1995, she began working at Targetti, an Italian lighting products company, where she learned and worked directly with the firm’s professionals.

She has attended numerous conferences, where her knowledge and experience have grown.

She was hired by ENDESA for the lighting project of 32 monuments in Peru.

In 2009, she founded her own studio, which is internationally recognized and has received international awards for her passion for light and her constant pursuit of new creative ways to use it.

She is frequently invited to various countries to give lectures on her work, including at MIT Media Lab, KTH in Stockholm, Enlighten Europe, Enlighten Americas, and LED Forum in Brazil.

Her studio has projects in Peru as well as in Bolivia, Colombia, the USA, and Singapore.

Scarlett Taylor
Lighting design and architecture in synchrony

Scarlett began her lighting design career at Light Team with Gustavo Avilés. She later worked for Philips (now Signify), one of the leading lamp manufacturers in the market. After gaining considerable knowledge in lighting, she joined Lux Populi in 2009, seeking to deepen her understanding of design based on functional, technical, and aesthetic principles.

At Lux Populi, Scarlett has focused on design and project management and is currently the Studio Leader at the Mexico office. Her projects range from high-end commercial and residential spaces to banking chains, retail stores, hospitality, mixed-use towers, and implementation projects. One of her main concerns when designing is the user’s experience within the space. She is aware that design is not always fixed and may evolve during later phases, from the initial concept to final commissioning.

Thomas Schneider
Lighting design and architecture in synchrony

Thomas Schneider is an architect and managing partner at KOVAC in Los Angeles, California. He has worked on projects of various scales, including high-profile commercial, adaptive reuse, and residential projects.

Born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, and educated in Canada, Germany, and Los Angeles, Thomas brings an international perspective to everything he designs and builds.

Throughout his 25-year career, his projects have been featured in prominent publications such as Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, and Wallpaper*, and have received numerous design awards.

He is a problem solver who values and is enriched by the relationships formed throughout the life of each project, from conception to completion.

Thomas has taught and lectured at his alma mater, SCI-Arc, and is actively involved in community and nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles, along with his wife Aliza and their twins.

Cecilia Guadarrama
Natural Light as a Design Element in Architecture

Doctorate from UNAM, Cecilia Guadarrama is a tenured professor in the Graduate Division of the Faculty of Architecture at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Her research focuses on natural light in the built environment.

In her academic role, she developed the curriculum for the specialization in “Architectural Lighting Design,” of which she is currently the academic head. She also established the “Natural Light Observation Platform” and the “Architectural Lighting Laboratory.”

She teaches courses at the undergraduate, specialization, and master’s levels, and supervises final projects in the Unique Program of Specializations in Architecture and theses in the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Architecture. Her research focuses on the use of natural light in architecture and the implications of artificial light in space. She is a national and international speaker on topics related to lighting in architecture and has undertaken lighting design projects and consulting related to lighting design.

Miriam García Alcántara
Natural Light as a Design Element in Architecture

Doctor of Science in Architecture and Urbanism from the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería y Arquitectura at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, with research on “The Aesthetics of Natural Light in Colonial Baroque Religious Architecture.” She holds a Master’s degree in Architecture from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where she received the Alfonso Caso Medal for her thesis, “Natural Light.”
